Psychics Are Like Mechanics

The title of this article may seem funny, but it's sadly true. How many mechanics do you have to go to before you find one that is honest, won't charge you an arm and a leg, and is actually good at what they do? Exactly! Some people are lucky and find a good mechanic the first time they need their car fixed. Others plod through life being ripped off right and left and either don't realize this or feel that there isn't much they can do about it. Wrong!

Here are some tips on finding a good psychic counselor.

  1. They don't do a reading for you then lure you into another reading (for more money) by saying they can't see something clearly and have to use another tool, another session, etc. These readings are often spotty, or promise something amazing or useful to you that will pique your curiosity or call to that part of you that is in need. Many bogus psychics prey upon people who are depressed, worried, ill, and so forth.
  2. They don't offer to "cleanse, protect, remove a curse, or promise something out of this world" for a huge fee. Nor do they offer a talisman, crystal, or other item that is "guaranteed" to bring love, riches, weight loss, health, etc. for a huge fee. We can only help things along for you, we cannot guarantee anything!
  3. They don't TELL you what you should do, they offer you choices that are up ahead so that you are FREE TO CHOOSE for yourself. This is how you grow in mind, body and spirit. "Give a man a fish and he eats for one night, teach him to fish and he eats for life."
  4. Don't be fooled into thinking that just because someone can tell you what color shirt you're wearing (or any other information that only you would know) that that makes them qualified to help direct you in life. We are ALL psychic, but not everyone can offer solid, stable advice that can truly help change your life. A good reader is 33 percent psychic, 33 percent counselor, 33 percent friend and one percent "other."
  5. They have a good attitude and are calm and down to earth. (I've been witness to many psychics who sit on a throne, some who are angry if you question them, some that are completely disorganized and timid, and everything in between.) A psychic should be your friend and advisor, not above you or below you, and certainly not God.

  6. They explain everything in a clear, honest fashion instead of sounding like a fortune cookie or something out of a Zen meditation.
  7. They offer you depth, detail and accuracy. Don't settle for excuses such as, "You aren't open enough, I can't read you." (This is usually followed by a pitch for more money.) There ARE times when a psychic is overworked, stressed, ill, or just tired and the reading may not come out as well as you would both like. (I try not to do that!) A psychic can tell right away if it's going to be a good read or not. There are times when we can't quite connect in the most beneficial way--perhaps YOU are stressed or tired or ill--but I always tell my clients something like, "If this doesn't resonate with you, please let me know." Either way, a good psychic won't charge you to clarify the reading.
  8. If you are truly unhappy or unclear about something in the reading, contact the psychic and let him/her know. If they are honest, they will offer to assist you and clear things up, answer a couple of questions you may have that are related to the reading, or offer a refund. If you are honest, you won't call them fakes simply because they couldn't name the dog you had back when you were still in diapers and demand a refund. (Yes, I've read for a few people like that.)
  9. Some psychics like to use "tools" to help them connect better--tarot, runes, I-ching, etc.--and that's perfectly fine! But if you get a reading that sounds like it's straight out of a book...move on and find another psychic. A reading should ALWAYS be personal, not vague or general. If the answer you get could fit thousands of other people (such as, "You have had a rough time of things, but a brighter future is in store for you once you learn to let go of the past"), then you might want to find someone who can connect with you better and offer something much more personal.
  10. Please don't become a psychic junkie! I know many clients who spend hundreds of dollars per month on several psychics. Usually, these people are looking around to find someone who will say what they want to hear. A good psychic will tell you what you NEED to know, not what you WANT to hear to satisfy your ego or feed into your fears. Find only one or two good psychics that you trust and stick with him/her. The more psychics you go to, the more confused you will be.
  11. Review their feedback and try to be sure that it's verifiable. Ebay is the best place to do this. It's very hard to fake good feedback on ebay! And check out what the feedback is for. You don't want to spend money on a psychic with lots of good feedback, only to find out that they're a shopaholic and the feedback is for products they have purchased.
  12. Don't hesitate to contact a psychic with a brief question before purchasing a reading. No matter how busy we are, we can take the time to let you know how we do a reading or if a situation in your life is something we can help you with.
  • Remember...like car mechanics, there are a lot of con artists out there posing as psychics. Don't let yourself be ripped off!
